A tiny kitten named Toby began “roaring” for affection the moment a kind-hearted rescuer let him in, already excited for what the future held. This little bundle of energy had no idea that his life was about to change forever.

Just when Laila D’Souza was preparing to take a short break from her busy animal rescue work, she received a message about a four-week-old kitten desperately in need of help. A local resident had spotted him lingering near an apartment building, all alone and clearly abandoned. It turned out that a neighbor had discarded him without care. Laila couldn’t bear to see him left to fend for himself and quickly stepped in to offer him safety and love.

On the ride to his foster home, Toby’s tiny lungs were put to full use—he screamed at the top of his voice inside the carrier, determined to let everyone know he was there. But as soon as Laila opened the door to his new room, complete with soft bedding, toys, and food, his frantic cries melted into a steady stream of purrs. This was the first time he truly felt safe.

Laila soon noticed that Toby had stomach troubles and was underweight—though his fluffy fur made it less obvious. With gentle care, proper medication, and nutritious meals, Toby’s appetite returned in full force. He began eating heartily, determined to make up for every missed meal during his time on the streets.

As his health improved, his sweet personality bloomed. Having spent time alone outside, Toby became deeply attached to people, always seeking closeness. “He loves all the attention he can get,” Laila shared. Now, whenever he spots her, he immediately starts purring and rushing to her side.

Toby has a habit of resting his little paws on Laila’s leg, gazing up at her with wide, trusting eyes as if making sure she isn’t going anywhere. Whether she’s feeding him or simply sitting nearby, Toby’s contentment shines through—he just wants to be close to the person who saved him.

For the first two weeks, Laila gave him constant reassurance and affection. Now, with his health back on track, Toby is ready to meet Leya, the gentle dog in Laila’s home. She’s excited for the introduction, confident that Toby will gain a new friend to play and snuggle with.

Toby may be tiny, but he has a powerful voice. Whenever Laila enters the room, he “roars” for her attention, looking like a miniature animated character full of personality. And even while he’s calling out to her, his little purr motor runs without pause.

After more than two weeks of attentive care, Toby’s stomach issues have completely cleared. With boundless energy and a playful spirit, he now spends his days exploring, eating well, and enjoying the warmth of soft blankets and loving company. He may be small in size, but he carries the heart of a lion.
