A cat arrived at an animal shelter with her kittens in tow, seeking safety and comfort after a difficult life outside. The shelter staff immediately noticed something special — a heart-melting bond between the mother and one tiny kitten, the runt of the litter, that made everyone at the shelter fall in love with them.

Tigger ExploitsValleySPCA
Tigger, a beautiful dark tabby cat, came to Exploits Valley SPCA with her six kittens, hoping for a better life. The staff welcomed the little family warmly, giving Tigger a safe, cozy nursery where she could nurse her babies in peace. They made sure she had endless food and gentle care, and soon all six kittens began to grow stronger each day, hitting all their little milestones under Tigger’s loving eyes.
She adored every one of her babies, but there was one — the smallest, gray-furred kitten — who had completely stolen her heart.

Rabbit, the only gray kitten in the litter, was noticeably smaller than her siblings, yet she never let her size stop her. Despite being the runt, she nursed fiercely and played just as hard as her brothers and sisters. “She keeps up with her siblings no problem and puts the boys right in their place,” the SPCA shared proudly.

At only two years old, Tigger was still youthful and playful herself, yet she was a devoted mother. She showered her kittens with love, affection, and endless grooming sessions. But Rabbit received extra attention — Tigger often curled up beside her tiny gray baby during nap time, wrapping her in warmth and comfort. As the kittens grew into adventurous young cats, Rabbit remained inseparable from her mom, always choosing to stay close by her side.

When the kittens were old enough to find homes, Tigger proudly watched as each one captured the hearts of visitors. “They are fluffy, friendly, and perfect in every way — especially Tigger,” said the SPCA. After being such a wonderful mother, she too was finally ready to find her own forever family, preferably with her beloved Rabbit by her side.

One by one, the kittens were adopted into loving homes. Tigger watched each of her babies leave, but she stayed strong and patient, waiting for the right person to notice her. Many shelter visitors tend to overlook mother cats once their kittens are gone, but Tigger’s story was about to take a beautiful turn.

Sheila, an animal lover, came across a post about Tigger and her kittens on social media. As soon as she read about their story and saw the photos, she fell in love with the mother cat. When she learned that Tigger had a special bond with Rabbit, Sheila immediately decided they should stay together. After her adoption application was approved, she eagerly prepared their new home — two cozy baskets side by side, ready for their arrival.

“Not only were all of Mama Tigger’s babies adopted, but she was too — and even better, she was adopted with her favorite baby, the runt of the litter,” the SPCA announced happily. It was a perfect ending for this loving pair.
After a long journey, the mother and daughter — now named Puss and Boots — finally reached their forever home.

The duo quickly made themselves at home. Puss (formerly Tigger) chose a sunny spot on the table as her throne, while little Boots (Rabbit) claimed a cozy hiding place beneath it. Every day, they filled the house with warmth, play, and laughter. Puss often watched proudly as her kitten dashed across the room, only to curl up next to her mom when she got tired — a heartwarming routine that melted Sheila’s heart.

“They’re so entertaining — I could sit and watch them all day,” Sheila shared. Thanks to the compassion of the Exploits Valley SPCA team and a kind adopter, this loving mother-daughter pair now live happily ever after, safe, loved, and home for good.
