A tiny kitten found beside a mailbox never gave up and had a unique way of capturing everyone’s heart.

One day, community members in a trailer park heard the pitiful cries of tiny kittens and immediately stopped to investigate. Following the sound, they discovered a cardboard box placed beside a mailbox. Inside were two fragile kittens, meowing loudly for attention and help. The scene tugged at their hearts, and they quickly decided to bring the kittens to safety.

The pair was rushed to the SPCA of Tompkins County, where Molly, a dedicated foster volunteer, stepped up to care for them. At only 7-10 days old, the kittens were extremely delicate but also impressively vocal. Molly decided to name them Siouxsie and Budgie after the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, saying, “I knew they needed names that matched their bold personality and fierce little voices.”

Sadly, despite all efforts to save them, Budgie lost his battle to calicivirus, leaving Siouxsie as the lone survivor. This tiny kitten was determined and resilient. She refused to give up, demanding her bottle with unwavering persistence and purring contentedly after every feeding. Her tenacity amazed everyone who cared for her.

Siouxsie developed a loving, playful personality but lacked a sibling to wrestle and play with. Molly shared, “She is one of those kittens who loves to crawl into your hand, curl up, and fall asleep.” Even as she grew bigger than Molly’s hand, Siouxsie still found ways to snuggle into it, proving just how tiny hearts can make the biggest impact.

To provide comfort, Molly introduced a plush mama cat with a soothing heartbeat. While it wasn’t the same as having her mother or brother, it gave Siouxsie some solace when Molly couldn’t hold her around the clock. Despite this, nothing compared to the warmth of human touch. Siouxsie cherished every lap she could curl up in, spending countless hours snuggled close to Molly.

After long play sessions with her wand toy and tunnel, followed by hearty meals, Siouxsie would settle on Molly’s lap or chest and sleep soundly for hours. She rotated through adorable positions, only interrupted when Molly had to get up for daily tasks. Through play, she explored her limits and learned essential kitten behaviors, all while endearing herself to everyone around her.

Her playful antics were endless. Sometimes she climbed on shoulders, attempted daring leaps, or used Molly’s back as a personal jungle gym. Yet, amid the chaos, she would sneak into Molly’s arms and plant tiny kisses on her chin — her own way of saying thank you and showing love.

By the age of seven weeks, Siouxsie crossed the two-pound milestone and was ready for adoption. She had overcome the odds, surviving calicivirus and blossoming into a healthy, energetic, and loving kitten. When it came time for her spay surgery, little did she know that a perfect forever home awaited her just around the corner.

Remarkably, Siouxsie didn’t even make it to the adoption floor. One of Molly’s social media posts caught the eye of a loving family, and they immediately came to pick her up that very same day. Today, Siouxsie is no longer a singleton. She enjoys life with another kitten, an older cat, and even a canine companion, finally having the playmates she had always deserved.

Thanks to the compassion of strangers and the dedication of a fosterer, Siouxsie grew into the lap cat she was always meant to be. Today, she thrives in her dream home, surrounded by love, playmates, and a family who adores her.
