About three months ago, Leanne, a dedicated volunteer with Whiskers-a-GoGo (a cat rescue organization), received an urgent message about a litter of kittens born in a very risky place. These tiny kittens were living in the narrow gap between a wooden fence and a chain-link fence. With the homeowner’s approval, Leanne carefully cut away part of the fence to reach the kittens and bring them to safety. Among the four rescued, one stood out as especially fragile and small. Right away, she could see that this little runt would need special attention and extra care to survive.

The Rescue and Safe Haven
The kittens had been born in the confined space between two fences, leaving them vulnerable to cold, predators, and the risk of not surviving. Knowing how critical it is to keep newborn kittens with their mother, Leanne set a humane trap to rescue the mother cat as well. Thankfully, she was able to secure the mom the very same day, ensuring that the entire feline family was safely relocated into foster care. Once in a warm, secure environment, the kittens no longer faced the dangers of being stuck outside and could finally begin to grow in comfort and safety.

Hamster, the Tiny Fighter
Once settled indoors, the foster mom noticed something heartbreaking. The mother cat rejected the smallest kitten, pushing her away from the nest. This little one, named Hamster, was impossibly small but had the loudest voice and strongest will to live. At one week old, she weighed just 85 grams—far less than a healthy newborn. Despite her size, she latched onto a bottle with remarkable determination, and within two days, she had gained eight grams. Although still incredibly small, Hamster’s resilience gave her foster family hope that she could one day catch up with her siblings and thrive.

Growing Stronger Each Day
Every feeding session for Hamster was followed by plenty of cuddles, keeping her warm and comforted. Over time, she began to purr, knead with her little paws, and show the playful personality of a true kitten. Her lungs proved strong as she demanded food with a powerful cry that could have woken her old neighborhood. Day by day, Hamster grew braver, more energetic, and more curious about the world around her. She was no longer the delicate runt but was turning into a kitten full of spirit and life. Eventually, she was reintroduced to her siblings and fit right back into the playful group.

A Happy Ending for the Litter
As the kittens grew older and were weaned, their mother cat retired from caring for them, enjoying some peace after raising her little family. Hamster was overjoyed to play with her siblings again and quickly became one of the most spirited kittens in the litter. Her boundless energy, mischievous antics, and strong appetite set her apart. While Cupcake, Macaroni, and Pipsqueak each developed their own personalities, Hamster’s journey from being rejected at birth to thriving with love and care made her story especially inspiring. Today, Hamster has outgrown some of her siblings and is ready, along with them, to find a forever home full of safety and affection.
