About two months ago, Karly from Salty Animal Rescue opened her home to two fragile kittens who desperately needed care and comfort. They were part of a larger rescue effort, saved alongside 10 other kittens from a farm thanks to a collaboration between Salty Animal Rescue and Bark at the Moon. Though the two weren’t biological siblings, they were quickly drawn to one another. “I think they’re from different litters,” Karly said. “The smokey kitten was especially tiny—just 215 grams at about three weeks old.”
But with just two days of warmth and bottle-feeding in foster care, the smallest kitten began to rally—and hope sparked.

They were rescued from a barn
The kittens were lovingly named Jelly (a sleek little house panther) and Bean (a soft smokey fluffball). From day one, they were bottle babies with strong appetites and even stronger spirits.Within just one week of round-the-clock care, Jelly started to chub up, while Bean—though still delicate—was fighting hard to catch up.

"I wasn't sure Bean would make it when we first got her. She was so tiny and underweight for her age."
Bean struggled with a case of sniffles, but she never gave up. Every ounce of energy went into nursing, healing, and growing stronger. As the days passed, she transformed—her soft fur fluffed out and her tiny face began to resemble a fuzzy little Ewok. Alongside Jelly, she proudly sported a round belly and showed it off after every meal. “They’re now eating on their own, running around, playing, and loving every moment of kitten life,” said the rescue.
As Bean grew bigger, her smokey coat became fluffier
Once both girls found their legs and their voices, the foster home came alive with meows, squeaks, and constant rumbling purrs. They even started to figure out how not to swim in their food bowls and learned to use the litter box like champs. Bean, the once-fragile kitten, was now unstoppable—a fluffy little whirlwind zooming around the room like she owned it.
With plenty of space to zoom around, toys to chase, and cat trees to climb, the kittens are thriving.
From wrestling matches to climbing sessions, Jelly and Bean made the most of their new life. “They’re not from the same litter, but they’ve been inseparable from the moment they arrived,” said Karly.
Each day, their bond grows stronger, showing how much they're meant to stay together.
Jelly is the confident one—playful, curious, and always ready to pounce. Though she can be shy at first, she melts into affection when it's cuddle time. Her tiny white eyebrow hairs make her irresistibly cute.
